How to Factory Reset an iPhone or iPad

Learn how to safely factory reset your iPhone or iPad before selling, returning, or giving it away. This step-by-step guide shows the easiest method to erase all data and remove iCloud.

(All modern iPhones & iPads – iOS / iPadOS 15 and newer)

This method uses Erase All Content and Settings and is the recommended way.


⚠️ Before you start (important)

  • This will permanently delete all data, please make sure you have backed up your data. ManMade Cycle is not responsible for any claims related to data loss. 

  • Make sure you have:

    • Your Apple ID password

    • Battery above 30% or the device plugged in

    • Internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data)


Step 1: Open Reset Settings

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap General

  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone / iPad

Step 2: Choose Erase

  1. Tap Erase All Content and Settings

  2. Review the information screen

  3. Tap Continue

Step 3: Confirm & Sign Out of iCloud

  1. Enter your device passcode

  2. Enter your Apple ID password
    (This removes Find My and iCloud lock)

  3. Tap Erase

Step 4: Wait for the reset to complete

  • The device will restart automatically

  • A progress bar will appear

  • This usually takes 5–15 minutes

Step 5: Stop at the Hello screen (important)

When finished, you’ll see the Hello setup screen.

👉 Do not sign in again

If returning or selling the device:

  • Power it off at the Hello screen
